The Impact of Employees’ Recognition, Rewards and Job Stress on Job Performance

Simply put, the importance of a rewarding employees in an organization is that it spurs people to work harder and be more productive. According to one survey, 79 percent of employees say that recognition makes them work harder, and 78 percent are more productive after being rewarded. In fact, as more Millennials and Generation Z workers enter the workforce, the importance of a reward system to increase motivation is becoming even greater. Although these younger workers want fair compensation and benefits, they also want meaningful and fulfilling work. Part of what makes work more meaningful is recognition for a job well done, or more specifically, frequent praise and awards for their efforts. In fact, Millennials consider rewards as essential to their happiness at work, meaning that employers have a responsibility to incorporate reward and recognition programs into their companies if they want to attract and retain younger workers.

Aim - the purpose of this study is to examine the role of employee rewards, recognition, and job-related stress towards employee performance considering the mediating role of perceived organizational support in the call-centers located in Lahore, Pakistan. Design - The data has been gathered through the survey method of the questionnaire. A simple random sampling technique is used for this study. Confirmatory factor analysis CFA and structure equation modeling SEM techniques have been used for statistical analysis. Findings - Results showed that employee rewards and recognition have a significant and positive effect on employee performance whereas job stress has a significant and negative effect on employee performance.
